CHARLESTON, Mo. — Businesses in Mississippi County are being warned to watch out for counterfeit money.
On Tuesday the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office was contacted about counterfeit bills circulating throughout the county. According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, by law, they were not told where or what denomination.
“As a courtesy we are asking and alerting all vendors/businesses to check currency coming into your establishments,” the release stated. “Business owners be aware and check the currency of all denominations coming into your place of business as a precaution. If you encounter a counterfeit bill secure the paper, make a note of who passed it, mark the date and time and try to secure any video of the transaction.”
Those who find counterfeit bills are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 573-683-2111 to report it or call your local agency to make a report of it.
