Sikeston man wanted for murder in custody
SIKESTON — A suspect wanted for a Sikeston murder has turned himself in.
According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, Kyle Martinez Johnson, 28, turned himself in Tuesday evening.
Johnson is charged with second degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. No bond has been set until Johnson’s court appearance, which had not been set Thursday morning.
Police sought Johnson after officers responded to Carroll and William Streets in Sikeston at around 5:30 p.m. Feb. 18. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive 19-year-old Jacob Moore of Sikeston, who had been shot once in the chest and pronounced dead.
Sikeston Department of Public Safety Chief James McMillen said there was an altercation between two people when Moore apparently walked up or was already there. As the argument escalated, Moore was shot and killed.
Sikeston DPS reached out on social media for help locating Johnson.
“We want to thank everyone for all the help in getting the word out. The pressure from social media helped with the decision of him turning himself in to the department without incident,” said a post on social media Wednesday.
