KENNETT, Mo. - A free pesticide collection is set for 8 am. to noon March 13 at Baker Implement Co., 915 Homecrest St. in Kennett.

All pesticides including herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides, dewormers, fly tags and fertilizers containing pesticides will be accepted from Missouri farmers and households. Pesticides from businesses will not be accepted.

Those transporting pesticides for disposal should wear nitrile or chemical resistant gloves when handling waste pesticides. They should not smoke while handling or transporting pesticides and it is recommended they not bring children or pets to the collection site.

Waste pesticides should be kept in their original containers; pesticides not in the original container should be labeled. Do not mix unwanted pesticides with other materials such as used motor oil or antifreeze.

All containers should be tightly sealed. If the container is leaking, place the container into a larger container with a non-flammable absorbent, such as clay-based cat box filler, to absorb any possible leaks.

Secure waste pesticides upright in a cardboard box during transport. Waste pesticides should be transported in the back of a pickup, on a trailer or in the car trunk. Keep flammables out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.

The hazardous waste contractor will unload the waste pesticides from the vehicle at the collection event. Those transporting items should remain in their vehicle until the contractor asks for their assistance.
