Flawed human leadership

We live in a world of flawed human leadership. No matter how great an organization or government might be, it will not stand the test of time. Unfortunately, as bad as we think things are now, it will continue to get worse. We live in a world of flawed human leadership. Corruption and greed have become common elements among leaders of our leadership. Hopefully, we can all live in peace and get along with one another instead of one race trying to prove itself more and more. I think everyone should read Larry Elder’s columns in the paper. He is a great author.

Keep Greitens from winning

Where is Missouri going? First, we got Greitens, then we got Hawley. Now Greitens again? Missouri has become the laughing stock of the country. Electing a sexual predator seems to be right up Missouri’s alley. Greitens and Hawley will be two peas of a pod and represent this state. And how can we keep proclaiming ourselves the state with Christian values, ethics and morals? It seems we keep sending more and more degenerates like this into office? Greitens quit on the job. He cheated on his wife and his family and did some despicable things. His trust from this voter ended when he validated what he did to his pregnant wife. Governor Parson fortunately has tried to restore some dignity and competence to the office. Please let’s keep Greitens in our rear-view mirror and avoid embarrassing ourselves again.

Are taxpayers still paying off bond?

According to the Standard Democrat October 11, 2019, the Sikeston Public Schools Math and Science center will be paid off March 2021. Are we the taxpayers going to have to keep making the payment even though we paid it off in roughly 15 years? On the School bond issue we passed in April 2020 (which we needed), when will it be paid off? When we pay it off are the taxpayers going to continue to pay?  When I pay off a car I no longer make payments. Why do we?

We contacted the Sikeston R-6 School District, and Sarah Thompson, communications coordinator, provided the following response: “You are correct; the building was paid off in March. As was discussed in numerous town hall meetings, the tax levy used to pay for that building was continued to help pay for the next building project, which was Wing Elementary. Had that not been done, subsequent tax increases would have been much higher.”

Thank you, Jamie Burger

I want to compliment the Standard Democrat for publishing comments and issues facing the 148th district written by Jamie Burger in the March 24, 2021, newspaper. It is so nice to see the current issues at stake being addressed by our elected officials, rather than just to read Jason Smith’s hateful comments how much he hates his opposing party and how he does not agree with the vote of the people.

Where is my stimulus check?

We haven’t received our stimulus check this month. We were told we would receive it this month but we haven’t got anything yet. I don’t understand what’s going on. Some people have gotten them but I know a lot of people haven’t gotten them. Where are they? Could somebody answer my question for me?

You can check on the status of your stimulus at https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment.

Show me face masks have helped

This is in reference to the article, “Why can’t people read” in reference to face masks. Please show me the science that says face masks help. I believe there have been several studies that say face masks, whether you wear them or not, have not helped. And another thing. If the Democrats told you to put a plastic bag over your head, would you do that?
