He acknowledged the bond committee, its co-chairs, Cooper McKelvey and Katie Merideth; Walt Modde, committee treasurer; and Felecia Blanton, who handled marketing for the campaign, as well as the City of Sikeston and Sikeston Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Corp.

Robinson also acknowledged community support received from R-6 teachers and administrators, including his central office team.

The superintendent also credited the district’s maintenance team, which is headed by Lorrie McClenton, director of building and grounds. He acknowledged Sikeston High School’s building principals, Doyle Noe and Tiffany Morgan.

Robinson also recognized Fleming Architects and Navigate Solutions, who are part of the district’s design, planning and process teams and have already been working on the construction of Lee Hunter Elementary and also planning for the Kindergarten Center safe room.

Robinson concluded by thanking the school board: President Aaron Boyce; Vice President Chad Bles; Secretary Bryan Nickell; members Matt Tanner, Ben Alcorn, Matt Drake, Renee Grimes and Rebecca Steward. “Thank you to our school board for having this vision several years ago to get this started,” Robinson said of the Board. “They have been instrumental in supporting, pushing, advising and guiding us to this point.”

Work is already underway on the site, and the project will continue from there with an expected substantial completion time of spring/summer 2022. The new building is planned to be ready for students on the first day of school in August 2022.
