Wesley Stutts
MIDWAY, Ga. — Wesley Solomon Stutts, AKA “Pop” was called home, Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021, at Springer Health Care in Port Royal, South Carolina.
Wesley was born July 10, 1922, at Coldbrook, Georgia, AKA Goshen Road in Effingham County. As a young child, he worked on a farm, then once he grew up he worked at the Savannah Sugar Refinery and at Union Bag Corporation before finding his true calling, the United States Navy. He proudly served over 20 years during World War II and the Korean War and commissioned the Bonhomme Richard. He was a life member of American Legion Post 114 in Sikeston, Missouri, and the VFW Post 660 in Savannah, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Ruth Miller and Matthew David Stutts; his sons, Anthony “Tony” Stutts and Gary Eugene Stutts; wife, Evelyn Grace Tidwell Stutts; and his son-in-law, Donald Lee Brown.
He is survived by his children, Theresa Brown, Shawn Stutts (Nicol), and Phyllis; and grandchildren, Wesley James Contino, Ian Carter Stutts, Connor Ryan Stutts, Grace Harper Stutts and Michelle Lee Brown King; and great-grandchildren, Haley and Bryce King.
Graveside Service was Aug. 6, 2021, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel, in charge of arrangements.
