CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Matthew Marvin Lynn Butrum, age 47, formerly of Sikeston, Missouri, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at his home in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 1, 1974, at Sikeston, to Marvin Butrum and Carolyn Long Butrum.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Matthew Marvin Lynn Butrum, age 47, formerly of Sikeston, Missouri, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at his home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 1, 1974, at Sikeston, to Marvin Butrum and Carolyn Long Butrum. Matthew graduated Sikeston High School in 1992. He worked at Long John Silvers as an assistant manager and attended Metro Business College where he completed an associates degree in business computers. In 1998 he found his calling as a true servant of the Lord. Matt pastored numerous churches and was a hospice chaplain for many years. He even served as a chaplain for Amick Burnett and Blanchard Funeral Homes. Near the end and through his own struggles, he still had a heart for others, and would pray for them.

On Nov. 30, 2002, Matt married the love of his life, Heather Lynn McCullough, who survives of the home.

Matt was a loving, dedicated father who leaves behind his two sons, Isaiah Matthew Butrum and Josiah Levi Butrum; his two sisters, Diane (Tim) Chappell and Cynthia (Mark) Reed; two brothers-in-law, Joey (Bree) McCullough and Tyler (Hannah) McCullough; as well as his nieces and nephews, Kent (Kyleigh) Chappell, Eric (Mykah) Chappell, Adam Reed, Abby (J.P.) Llarch, Trae, Madison, Kambrie, Zoey, Joey Jaxon, Marley, Blayne, Sydni, Kinleigh, Kate, Kolton, Brantlee, Maxwell and Beau. Matt had a countless amount of people who referred to him as “Uncle Matt.”

He was preceded in death by his mother and one son, Landon Reece Butrum.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston where the funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2021. Kevin Coffey and Joe McCullough will officiate.

Interment will follow in Unity Baptist Cemetery of Benton, MO under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Aaron Redecker, Andy Dicus, Kent Chappell, Eric Chappell, Adam Reed, Tyler McCullough, Joey McCullough and Tim Chappell.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Mark Reed, Josiah Butrum and Isiah Butrum.
