Corky Butrum

SIKESTON — Commodore "Corky" Butrum, age 66, a resident of Sikeston, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born May 16, 1955, in Wyatt, Missouri, to the late Marion Lee and Lola Marie Butrum. Corky was a cowboy and never went anywhere without his cowboy hat; he loved horses and was an avid gun collector; western was definitely his style. He worked for All State Ag Parts for 25 years, until he retired just a short time ago. Corky loved playing “Santa’s helper,” growing a beard and dressing up for all the children around Christmas time. He handed out candy canes and enjoyed seeing the kids smile. Woodworking projects were something that Corky liked doing; when Susie needed something, he made it happen.

On June 17, 2011, he married Susie Barrowman, who preceded him in death on May 6, 2021.

Surviving are his children and stepchildren: Corey (Holly) Butrum of LaCenter, Kentucky; Nikki (Daniel) Butrum of Sikeston; Jason (Tammy) Beard of Kinston, North Carolina; Shannon (Brent) Blanchard of Delaware, Ohio; Ashley Canada of Pembroke, Kentucky; Jane Young of Sikeston; two brothers, Marvin Butrum and Gary Butrum; three sisters, Christine Averitt, Kathleen Young and Kay Wren; two nieces who were like sisters, Diane Chappell and Cindy Reed; 19 grandchildren; and one fur baby, Ruger.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Chris Butrum; three brothers, Alfred Butrum, George Butrum and John Butrum; one sister, Carolyn “Cricket” Butrum; one nephew, Matthew Butrum; and one fur baby, Kimber.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Interment will follow in the Blodgett Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Jacob Butrum, Caleb Butrum, Jason Beard, Tim Chappell, Daniel Draper and Mark Butrum. Honorary pallbearers will be: Diane Chappell and Cindy Reed.
