SIKESTON — Four people have filed for open Sikeston City Council positions after filing opened on Tuesday.
Tom Robison filed for the open Ward 1 position while filing for the at-large position were John Leible and Larry Hancock. Current Ward 4 Council Member Onethia Williams also filed in hopes of retaining her seat. The filing period will end Nov. 23 at 5 p.m.
Seats up for appointment are At-Large Council Member Ryan Merideth, Ward 1 Council Member Brandon Sparks and Ward 4 Council Member Williams. Councilman Ryan Merideth has termed out and is not eligible to run in this election, and Councilman Brandon Sparks has resigned his seat due to a move out of Ward 1.
Anyone interested in running for a position on Council must be a qualified voter of Sikeston and at least 21 years of age. Ward candidates must be a resident of the ward for which they are filing for a period of at least one year immediately prior to the last day to file for election. At-large candidates must have been a resident of the City for at least one year immediately prior to their election. A $15 filing fee is required.
