New Madrid County Halloween activities set for ghouls and boos
There are lots of activities for youngsters who enjoy the scariest holiday of the year - Halloween.
PORTAGEVILLE
Portageville Elementary will host a fall festival for the students during school hours on Friday. There will be games and activities for the students as well as grade-level harvest parties that afternoon.
Students will be allowed to wear costumes, but parents should not send accessories to school. If they have a mask, students can bring it to wear in the parade.

Due to Halloween falling on a Sunday this year, trick or treating within the city of Portageville is from 5-8 p.m. Saturday for children ages 12 and under.
Portageville’s Fire and Rescue’s annual truck or treat is from 5-8 p.m. Saturday or until firefighters run out of candy. Ladder Truck 10 will be on MacArthur Avenue at 10th street at the National Guard Armory and Engine 1 will be at MacArthur Avenue and Fifth Street. A third firetruck will be at the First Church of God as well as Sparky the dog making the rounds.
LILBOURN
The VFW Post 7183 in Lilbourn will host a Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free with a trunk or treat planned as well as prizes for all events.
There will be free chili, local vendors, a dunking booth, bounce houses, cake walk and games and events for all ages. Some events will take tickets and tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5. A corn hole tournament will be held at 11 a.m.

NEW MADRID
Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday at New Madrid Elementary, youngsters from Lilbourn Elementary, Matthews Elementary, New Madrid Elementary and Immaculate Conception School will take part in the annual Trunk-or-Treat. Candy will be provided by area businesses and organizations.
According to the New Madrid Police Department, city ordinance does not regulate the dates for trick or treating, only the curfew on Oct. 31. With that in mind, trick-or-treat activities can take place between dusk and 9 p.m. Sunday.
Trunk-or-Treat will take place from 5-7 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the New Madrid County Courthouse. If businesses or individuals would like to set up they are asked to contact the New Madrid Chamber of Commerce by calling 748-5300 or commenting on the Chamber’s Facebook page, where participants will be listed.
From 5-8 p.m. Sunday, the Riverbend Pentecostals will host trunk or treat in their Family Center, 1031 Mill St.
