SIKESTON — Sara Jane “Sally” Ahlvin, nee Hawkins, age 93, of Sikeston, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 27, 2021, in O’Fallon, Illinois, at the home of her son, Paul, under the compassionate care of her children and VITAS Healthcare.
Sally was a resident of Sikeston since 1971, where her husband, the late Dr. Robert Ahlvin, served as physician, pathologist and director of the medical lab at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was an active and faithful member of Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church, where she assisted with the publication of the monthly newsletter, baked communion bread and visited shut-ins. Sally enjoyed cross-stitching, baking, gardening and bird-watching. She hiked and traveled often with her husband before his death in 2009. She was an avid bowler in her younger years and was a longtime fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Ahlvin; parents, Lester R. and Flora, nee McLemore, Hawkins; and brother, Joseph Hawkins.
Surviving are her children, Paul (Terri) Ahlvin of O’Fallon, Mark (Cathy) Ahlvin of Sikeston, David (Katie) Ahlvin of Fulton, Missouri, and Elizabeth (Mark) Shell of Defiance, Missouri; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; niece, Connie Johnson; and nephew, Bob (Melva) Hawkins.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. at Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church, Sikeston.
