CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Mary Grace Scott, age 94, a resident of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
She was born Nov. 25, 1927, at Lonoke, Arkansas, to the late Edward Ross and Mary Ethel Clement Leigh. Mary loved to cook, be in her garden, go fishing and sew. She would even sew clothes for her children and grandchildren.
On Oct. 25, 1947, she married Amos L. Scott, who preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 2002.
Surviving are her two daughters, Gloria (John) Crowley of Cape Girardeau and Bobbye (Robert) Hooper of Sikeston; one brother, Charles (Marion) Leigh of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Betty Jones of Sikeston; two grandchildren, Hugh (Stephanie) Gilmore of Cape Girardeau and Berry (Meredith) Hooper of Charleston, Missouri; five great grandchildren, Logan Gilmore, Luke Gilmore, Taylor Gilmore, Sophie Gilmore and Soma Grace Hooper; and two great-great-grandchildren, Holland and Scout Williamson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ruth Scott; one brother, Cecil Leigh; and two sisters, Avalene Spear and Dorene Henley.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, beginning at 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11 a.m. at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Mathew Vromen will officiate.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
