CHARLESTON, Mo. — Alfred Edward "Eddie" Murphy, age 78, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, at his home in Charleston.

Born March 1, 1943, at Charleston, to the late Gus Murphy and Margaret Pullen Hopper, Eddie lived in Charleston all of his life, graduating from Charleston High with the class of '62. He worked for 33 years at the Brown Shoe Factory in Charleston until it closed, and then he went to work at Good Humor-Breyers in Sikeston until he retired. He had been a member of the VFW, loved to play cards and shoot pool, but Eddie's favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren.

On Oct. 26, 1963, he married Glenda Mae Carter, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are his children, Eddie Murphy Jr. of Wyatt, Missouri, Ricky Murphy of Charleston and Tammy Burns of East Prairie, Missouri; one brother, Bobby Hopper of Sikeston, Missouri; one sister, Sandra Pruden of Diehlstadt, Missouri; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by on daughter, Sarah Louise Adams; one son, Audie Lee Murphy; and one brother, Danny Hopper.

Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Jacquie Hinchey Castaneda will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
