DONIPHAN, Mo. — Robert Phipps “Bob” Pulliam was born Aug. 29, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Ponder and Glenna (Phipps) Pulliam and departed this life Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022. He was 79.

Bob was raised in Doniphan. He earned a BSE degree from Arkansas State University in 1964. Bob went into the teaching profession at New Madrid High School. He received his master’s degree in 1966 and would later earn school administration certification from Southeast Missouri State University. Bob left the teaching profession for a time to work for the University of Missouri and Noranda Aluminum before returning to education at New Madrid County Central High School as a counselor. He retired as the district’s Vocational Director in 2002.

As an adult, Bob served the New Madrid Methodist Church for over 50 years and now the Doniphan United Methodist Church. He enjoyed local high school sports and served as NMCC basketball scorekeeper for 26 years. In addition to his love for high school sports, particularly basketball, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Current River provided years of enjoyment.

Bob served as a New Madrid City Councilman for 14 years. He was a past president of the local Chamber of Commerce and a charter member and director of the New Madrid County Salvation Army. Additionally, he was past president and charter member of the New Madrid County Senate Bill 40 Board of Directors which serves the area sheltered workshop and the Kenny Rogers Children’s Center.

On Oct. 31, 1964, Bob married Pat Henderson in Doniphan. They had celebrated 57 years of marriages before she preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 2021.

Surviving are two sons, one daughter-in-law, and six grandchildren: son, Rob Pulliam, and his three daughters, Audrey, Olivia, and Lila Jane of Nashville, Tennessee; and son, Jeff, and daughter-in-law, Liz, and their three sons, Caden, Gage, and Brady of Maumelle, Arkansas.

Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. Brother Kent Wilfong will be officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
