NEW MADRID, Mo. — Russell Junior Riggs was born Jan. 4, 1952, in Dexter, Missouri, to Bertha M. (Wallace) & Marvin Riggs. He passed away on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at home in New Madrid at the age of 70 years and 15 days.

Russell married his sweetheart, Sandy Pfuehler, on Oct. 11, 1980, in New Madrid. Preceding him in death were his parents, Bertha M. (Wallace) Riggs in February 1998 and Marvin Riggs, 1973. Also preceding him in death was one brother, Ronald Dean Riggs. Russell served his community as alderman for New Madrid for many years. He was always there helping people and being very active in his community. He spent many years playing music with The Dirt Road Express, and music was one of his many loves. He could be found “riding around.” He enjoyed his time on the levee and in the bottoms, loved shooting squirrels and was once an avid duck hunter. Riggs Construction, along with woodworking, was also an important part of his life, and he spent many years providing valuable services to the people of the community with his knowledge of carpentry.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Sandy Riggs of New Madrid; his son, Jonathan Riggs (Candace) of New Madrid; daughters, Rachell Riggs, Julia York (Rodney), Jessie Harris (Jim), and Melissa Harris (Arlen Pixley), all of New Madrid; his brother, Bobby (Karen) Riggs of Milan, Tennessee; 14 beloved grandchildren; and a host of many other relatives and very dear friends.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 at the Methodist Church in New Madrid with services at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Revs. G.L. Keene and Terry Lippstreu will officiate.

Burial with full military rites will follow in the Mounds Park Cemetery with DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville in charge of arrangements.
