SIKESTON — John Charles Cappel Jr., of Sikeston passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, in Colorado in a trucking accident. He was 50 years and 19 days old. He was born to Mary and John Cappel, Sr. on Jan. 9, 1972, in Tampa, Florida. He lived in Tampa until he was 7 years old and then moved with his family to Dallas, Georgia, before relocating to Sikeston, where he graduated with the class of 1989.

He loved his dog, a Boxer named Sadie, who rode with him for thousands of miles. Unfortunately, Sadie perished in the accident with John.

In his down time while out on the road, John enjoyed operating his RC Cars. His other hobby was deer hunting and fishing.

John was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph Cappel and Addie Elizabeth Cappel, and maternal grandparents, Wesley Miller and Mae Elizabeth Miller.

He is survived by his parents, John and Mary Cappel of Lebanon, Missouri; a brother, William Cappel and his wife, Dymisha of Marshfield, Missouri; a sister, Elizabeth Schmutzler and her husband, Quentin of Linn Creek, Missouri; a special friend, Elaine Estes of Sikeston; his nieces and nephews, Austin Cappel and his wife, Lethie, Kristen Schmutzler, Carter Schmutzler, Zachary Cappel and Taylor Cappel; three great-nieces and -nephews, Atley, Sawyer and Ellie Mae.

John enjoyed life and being with family and friends when his schedule allowed. He will be so very missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
