Dick Inman

SIKESTON — Ernest Richard “Dick” Inman, age 93, passed away on Feb. 23, 2022, at his home in Sikeston.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1928, in Sikeston, to the late Ernest Nople and Dimple Brown Inman.

On July 10, 1949, Dick married Jo Ann Botter in Sikeston. She preceded him in death on May 22, 2000. They were members of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Dick is a veteran of the United States Marine Corp from 1946-1947 and then he served in the U.S. Army Reserve where he retired as Major after serving from 1950-1975. He was also employed by the Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities from 1958-1995 as General Manager for 29 years, and was the first director of the Sikeston Housing Authority.

During Dick’s tenure with the City of Sikeston, he was President of Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities, Chairman of Missouri State Utility Pooling Commission, President of SEMO-NEARK Utility Association, and a Board member of Western Fuel Association. Dick was instrumental in the development of the Sikeston Power Station requiring the largest revenue bond issue to be approved by the citizens of Sikeston in its history totaling $250 million dollars.

Over his lifespan in Sikeston, Dick was member of The Sikeston Lions Club, Reserved Officers Association, Jr. Chamber of Commerce, American Public Power Association, Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities, Missouri Joint Commission of Municipal Pooling, Elks Lodge and the Sikeston VFW. He was also a third degree Master Mason and a Royal Arch Mason.

Dick liked everyone; the only exception was the infamous “My Pillow” guy.

Dick loved playing golf, watching the St. Louis Cardinals play, and sweets (especially 24 hour fruit salad, lemon meringue jello, chocolate kisses, and discovering that he could have cranberry sauce not on Thanksgiving).
