10 R-1 FBLA members head to state competition

NEW MADRID, Mo. - As the largest business career and technical students organization in the world, the Future Business Leaders of America strives to prepare students to become business leaders in a global society. Students from New Madrid County R-1’s Technical Skills Center showed they are well on their way by earning honors in competitions ranging from spreadsheet applications to business law and personal finance to sports and entertainment management at the District 16 FBLA Leadership Conference.

Twenty-two members from the TSC chapter attended the Feb. 9 conference at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. As part of the conference the students competed in the district leadership awards program with over 500 members representing 19 chapters throughout the district.

Placing in the top five at the FBLA District 16 Leadership Conference were: Drew Howell, first place spreadsheet applications; Drew Howell, Sawyer McElveen and Justin Morris, first place in sports and entertainment management team; Maggie Langley, second place, personal finance; Cherikee Morgan, second place in business Law and political science; Makayla Birdwell and Avery Towery, second place in introduction to business presentation; Jimmya Newson, third place in Accounting I; Austin Eddy, third place in political science; Kayleigh Austin, Catie Cox and Stone Pixley, third place in entrepreneurship team; Delaney Cooksey,

third place in job Interview; Ethan Moore, fourth place in agribusiness; Will Roberts, fifth place in business calculations; and Hailey Elder, fifth place in personal finance.

Austin Eddy, Hailey Elder, Drew Howell, Maggie Langley, Sawyer McElveen, Ethan Moore, Cherikee Morgan, Justin Morris, Jimmya Newson and Will Roberts will compete in the 2022 State Leadership Conference in Springfield on April 10 - 12.

“We are so proud of these outstanding FBLA members who competed in the FBLA National Awards Program,” said Mary Landers and Betty Lou Eddy, TSC’s FBLA advisers. “The knowledge, experience and motivation gained from competing makes every participant a winner.”
