Killings have to stop

The shootings that happened last weekend in Charleston; lives lost and it’s devastating and senseless. The event was supposedly a birthday party, a harmless event right, that turned tragic, due to weapons of mass destruction in the hands of immature civilians. So who do we lay the blame on? The NRA-shouting and imposing, or our lawmakers who seem at times to have given “common sense” over to the profit and gain column or the civilian citizen crying, “I got the right to protect myself from harm” or the “wannabe” gang banger, who is marking his territory or making their name “coward” with an assault weapon? We have duly appointed law enforcement who are to defend the rights of the people, so when a crime is committed and you know anything, report it. I am just saying “the killings have got to stop.”

What happened to shifts?

I was reading in the Friday, Feb. 11 edition of the Standard Democrat, where the Sikeston Public Works Director said they had 12 hours shifts to clean the streets clear of snow. Did they forget the area of South Ridge? It didn’t look like anyone came out this way and cleaned any of the streets in this new edition. What happened to them and their 12 hour shifts?
