St. Patrick’s Day Festival to be held Saturday

Tuesday, March 15, 2022

SIKESTON — While it may be a week later than orginally scheduled, Downtown Sikeston will still be abuzz Saturday with plenty of activities for young and old at the St. Patrick’s Day Festival.

“This festival is a favorite for our community,” said Jason Davis, executive director of Historic Downtown Sikeston. “The live music, great food, great homebrew, unique crafts and of course, the Downtown Sikeston atmosphere makes this event a must to attend.”

The festival was originally scheduled for March 12, but bad weather on March 11 caused the Festival to be pushed back one week.

Now the Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Legion Park. Any tickets purchased for March 12 will be good for March 19 as the event will still offer both live music and a homebrew contest. Entry for adults is $15 and includes a souvenir mug. Kids get in free.

Davis said the Evan Webb Band will be taking the stage at the festival, their first time playing in Downtown Sikeston.

He said there will be 19 homebrew teams this year as well, with each team averaging two brewers per team.

“We are estimating to have approximately 30 homebrews to sample,” Davis said.

There are also more activities for kids this year, which includes a miniature golf course and bounce house.

“Also this year, we will have event swag, including new souvenir cups for special drinks and some very unique St. Patrick’s Day Festival T-shirts that will be limited for this event,” Davis said.

The event helps raise money for the continued restoration and preservation of Downtown Sikeston.

“We use these funds to offer façade grants, fund beautification projects and operate our organization,” Davis said. “Also, this event gives our community a chance to come Downtown, visit our great merchants and see the changes that are continuing to take place in our great Downtown district.”

Donut Dash

There will be plenty of other events besides the annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival held Saturday, kicked off by the Donut Dash.

A fun/silly event for families, weekend warriors and the below average athlete, those taking part can enjoy a donut every 250 meters.

Hosted by Sikeston Parks and Recreation, registration is $10 and will be held from 10-10:30 a.m. at the Legion Park Bandstand with the 1K fun run beginning at 10:30 p.m.

Shirts will be given to each participant.

Cornhole Tournament

Also Saturday, Sikeston Parks and Recreation will host their sixth annual cornhole tournament.

Teams consist of two people that will be limited to 24 teams. The teams will be divided into four pools of six teams and will play a round-robin format with the top two finishers of each pool advancing to a double elimination tournament.

Play will begin at 11 a.m. and the cost is $40 per team before March 12 and $50 per team on March 12. There will be cash prizes of $500, $300 and $100 to the top three teams.
