Drug arrests made in Portageville

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. - Four persons were taken into custody following a series of drug-related arrests.

According to Portageville Police Chief Ronnie Adams, at 12:09 p.m. March 8, officers conducted a traffic stop on King Avenue near Clover Lane. During the course of the traffic stop officers were denied consent to search the vehicle and the Portageville Police K-9 was requested.

After the K-9 made a positive alert on the on the vehicle, it was searched by officers, who located approximately 37 grams of methamphetamine and approximately 21 grams of marijuana.

Arrested were Kenneth Farr and April Durbin of Howardville, Mo. Farr is charged with delivery of controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid and possession of controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid. He is currently being held without bond at the Mississippi County Jail.

Durbin is charged with delivery of controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid and possession of controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid. Durbin is being held on a $15,000 bond at the Mississippi County Jail.

At 7:56 a.m. March 8, officers were dispatched to 300 East 7th Street in reference to a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident. Officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later in the Lakeview Apartment Complex and conducted a traffic stop.

The suspect, later identified as Kevin Slayton of New Madrid, Mo., was patted down by an officer, who found a 9mm handgun concealed in Slayton’s pant pocket. Also during a search of the Slayton’s vehicle officers located approximately 12.7 grams of methamphetamine, three digital scales and a syringe containing an unknown substance.

Slayton is charged with delivery of controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of weapon - Subsection 11 - possess weapon and a felony controlled substance and leaving scene of accident - property damage exceeding $1,000. Slayton, who is currently on parole for first degree burglary and stealing over $25,000, is being held in the Mississippi Jail on a $50,000 bond.

In response to a complaint made at 7:40 a.m. March 7 of a subject yelling and cursing at passing motorists on West 12th Street, officers were able to locate the suspect, identified as Jeremy Sutton of Portageville, on Park Avenue. Sutton was arrested for disorderly conduct.

During a search of Sutton, officers located approximately .3 grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe.

Sutton is now charged with felony possession of controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid. He is being held in the Mississippi County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
