The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department was awarded $4,000 from State Farm for Road Safety Equipment. According to Sheriff Bud Cooper, with the funding the Department purchased stop sticks and reflective road safety vests for all its road deputies. “With over 300,000 police vehicles equipped with stop sticks and more than 30,000 pursuits ended safely, stop sticks have become a staple of law enforcement at the municipal, county and state levels,” Cooper said. With these safety equipment, the Deparment will now able to assist surrounding agencies such as the Missouri State Highway Patrol, New Madrid City, Portageville Police Department, Gideon Police Department, Lilbourn, Morehouse, Parma, Marston, Matthews, Risco and Canalou, he added.
