Alta Rhodes

SIKESTON — Alta Pearl Rhodes, age 87, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born on May 6, 1934, in Hugo, Oklahoma, to the late Allen and Ethel Coffman Burton.

On Jan. 24, 1953, in Piggott, Arkansas, she married John Grant Rhodes who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1977.

She is survived by two daughters, Pat (Larry) Carpenter of Bell City, Missouri, and Sherry (Marty) Godwin of Vanduser, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Shelley Carpenter, Missy Stewart, Brandy Rhyne, John Rhodes, Brittany Dunn, Leigh Ann Rhodes and Jake Rhodes; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, Gary Rhodes; three brothers, IL Burton, Merle Burton and Billie Gene Burton; and three sisters, Irene Holt, Jewel Barrick and Hazel Hargrove.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. with Trish Eskew officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Morley Cemetery in Morley, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be: Terry Burton, Toby Burton, Lonnie Hargrove, Michael Hargrove, John Rhodes and Jake Rhodes.
