SIKESTON — Sikeston R-6 School District on Thursday named a new superintendent for next school year following last month’s resignation of current superintendent Dr. Tony Robinson.

In a letter to Sikeston R-6 parents, guardians and community, Sikeston R-6 Board of Education President Chad Bles said the school board had successfully completed the superintendent search.

“We are thrilled to inform our community that Mrs. Shannon Holifield has been unanimously selected to serve as the next superintendent of Sikeston R-6 Schools,” Bles said

Holifield currently serves as the assistant superintendent for secondary education.

“I want to assure each of you that this process began and ended with the students and staff of Sikeston R-6 being the highest priority,” Bles said. “We truly believe that great days are ahead for Bulldog Nation.”

Holifield comes to the position with 29 years of education experience. She has served as classroom teacher, coach, principal and the last seven years as an assistant superintendent at Sikeston.

“I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to lead the Sikeston school district,” Holifield said. “The hard work and dedication of our staff inspires me daily, and I can't wait to continue our work together.

Bles said Holifield’s leadership and knowledge of the district will contribute to a seamless season of transition.

“The Board of Education looks forward to working with Mrs. Holifield to ensure that together we continue to inspire, ignite and empower those entrusted to our district,” Bles said.

Robinson’s last day as superintendent is slated for June 30, and Holifield will assume the position July 1.

“I am fortunate to be a part of such a great team,” Holifield said. “Sikeston won my heart 15 years ago, and I will forever bleed red and black. This is home. ...Go Bulldogs!”
