Two injured in motorcycle accident
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the afternoon of May 28, the fire department’s rescue squad responded to a traffic crash just north of the Marston rest area in the southbound lane of Interstate 55.
It was initially reported as a motorcycle-vs-vehicle crash, but when the fire department arrived, they found it was a single-vehicle motorcycle wreck. The driver of the motorcycle was traveling south on the interstate when he had a blowout and lost control, throwing both him and his passenger from the motorcycle.
The driver sustained minor injuries, but the passenger was severely injured and flown by helicopter to Cape Girardeau.
Around 8 p.m. June 4, an officer was called to the levee near the observation deck for a theft.
A man and woman said they were outside their vehicle walking near the riverbank when they saw a man opening the door of their car that was parked at the boat ramp.
By the time they got back to their car, the man had fled and was leaving in a white SUV with no front license plate. They tried to follow the SUV but lost it somewhere in the area of the courthouse.
The only thing stolen from the car was a small purse that had several bank and credit cards inside, but no cash. Surveillance footage is being gathered from the area but a suspect has not been identified.
