Joe Hughes
MOREHOUSE, Mo. — Joe William Hughes, age 87, a resident of Morehouse, died Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Delta South Nursing Center in Sikeston, Missouri.
Born Jan. 26, 1935, at Dudley, Missouri, to the late Will Hughes and Rhoda Stroud Hughes, he had lived in the Morehouse area most of his life and had been employed as a brick layer and in construction until his retirement. He was a member of The Sanctuary in Sikeston.
On March 24, 1955, at Morehouse, he married Etta Lou Shipp, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are his sons, Steve (Effie) Hughes of Morehouse and Randy (Tammy) Hughes of Portageville, Missouri; his grandchildren, Joe Patrick, Tabitha Dumey, Carrie Beth Thacker, Ben Moore, Rachel Huggins, Cassidy Hughes and Gabe Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Patrick, Brock Patrick, McKayla Dumey, Maverick Moore, Blair Huggins, Levi Huggins, Mia Thacker, Ember Thacker and Eli Thacker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carlotta “Carla” Moore; his brother, John Hughes; and his sisters, Leona Merriman and Sue Underwood.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022, at the The Sanctuary, 1506 North Main, Sikeston, MO 63801. Pastor Jay Teague will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be: Ben Moore, Shawn Huggins, Josh Thacker, Joe Dumey, Gabriel Hughes and Mark Moore.
