EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. — Jean H. Barksdale, age 92, of East Prairie passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. She was born Dec. 17, 1929, in Bogota, Tennessee, to the late George W. Welch and Kate (Young) Welch. As a young child, her parents moved the family to Missouri where they resided on a farm just outside of East Prairie. She was a graduate of the East Prairie class of 1947 and earned a Business Degree from Southeast Missouri State University. Along with her first husband, Jack, they started Hubbard Muffler Company at Big Book Corner where she retired in 1992 as Owner/Business Manager. She loved hobbies such as quilting and was a lifelong farmer.
On July 2, 1948, she married Charles LeRoy "Jack" Hubbard, who preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1967.
She remarried on June 4, 1971, to William Richard Barksdale, who also preceded her in death on May 25, 2000.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kandi (Barksdale) Staples and Sidney Lee Staples Jr. of East Prairie; her stepchildren Teresa (Barksdale)/Jim McElroy, Richard Lynn/Jody Barksdale, and Randy Allen/Kay Barksdale; her grandchildren, Landry Welch Staples and Lance Foster Staples, also of East Prairie; and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Barbara Sue (Welch) Stevenson and Myra Janice Welch.
The funeral arrangements are scheduled for Saturday, July 9, 2022, with Brother Martin Lucas officiating.
Family visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with friends calling from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.
Funeral services will then begin at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Steven Stevenson, Mike Pool, Bud Russell, Ben Ray, Gene Thresher and Terry Thresher.
