What steps are being taken by R-6?

I’m a first time caller to Speakout. I appreciate reading the comments presented each and every day. I just like Speakout on behalf of Sikeston that have kids going to Sikeston Public Schools. I was just wondering what steps have the school board administrators and the school board members made to ensure the safety of the children going to Sikeston Public Schools, and the recent rash of all the shootings in schools around the country. I would like to know what they’re doing to ensure the safety of the kids.

The Standard Democrat plans to run an article regarding this matter at all area schools prior to the start of the new school year.

Lawmakers still supporting lies

Governor Parson just signed a new voter bill (House Bill 1878) in to law on June 29. The bill requires a photo I.D. to vote. A similar bill was passed in 2017 and was thrown out by the Missouri Supreme Court. I am sure the new bill will be challenged in court. The bill also eliminates mail-in voting and eliminates use of voting machines beginning in 2024. I guess our state lawmakers are still supporting Trump’s lies.

Paid family leave is needed

In the United States, over the past 50 years, the number of working mothers has increased by 72 percent, millions more are working. And they’re working because they have to. Of all the developed countries, the United States is the only one that does not offer paid family leave and does not require companies to offer it. However, some U.S. companies do offer paid family leave, mostly the biggest companies such as, Amazon and Google and a few private companies. Our people need for paid family leave to be the standard. Housing and the cost of living are expensive. Paid family leave would really take the strain off parents of newborns.
