GIDEON, Mo. - The deaths of a Gideon man and woman were ruled heat-related.
Capt. Chris Hensley with the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department said officers went to a house in Gideon at approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday after a family member had requested a well-being check.
Officers forced their way into the home where they found Tammy Parker, 55, and Robert Parker, 52, dead. Also three dogs were found deceased.
According to Hensley, the house had no air-conditioning and was not well ventilated.
“We get several calls a year to do well-being checks,” Hensley said. “We do find people in distress and get the ambulance there and get them help. Unfortunately, sometimes it turns out like this.”
With temperatures remaining in the 90s, residents are urged to check on their neighbors.
Hensley noted each of the sheriff department patrol cars are equipped with small coolers and water, which deputies can provide to those suffering from the heat until medical help arrives.
