Turner chosen as circuit clerk for Mississippi County

CHARLESTON, Mo. — Christina Branam Turner will serve as the circuit clerk for Mississippi County.

Turner received 715 votes while her opponent on the Republican ticket, Denise Little, received 353 votes during Tuesday’s Primary Election, according to unofficial vote totals from the office of Mississippi County Clerk Emily Parker Pullen. There were no Democrats seeking the office. 

A lifelong resident of Mississippi County, Turner has been employed by the county for 15 years: 11 years in the justice system and four years assisting in the county’s daily operations.

In a pre-election question-and-answer session with the Standard Democrat, Turner said, if elected, her priority is to continue the hard work of the current circuit clerk and to have work completed in a consistent and timely manner.

Eighty-eight percent, or 1,133, of the 1,286 total ballots cast were Republican Party ballots while 11.9%, or 153, were Democratic Party ballots, according the office of Mississippi County Clerk Emily K. Pullen which provided the unofficial results. No Mississippi County ballots were cast on the Libertarian and Constitution ballots.

Running unopposed on the Republican ballot — and countywide — were the following candidates: Rob Barker, associate circuit judge, 979 votes; James D. Conn, presiding commissioner, 928 votes; Emily Parker Pullen, county clerk, 949 votes; George Bays, Recorder of Deeds, 976 votes; Paul Moore, treasurer, 931 votes; Claire E. Poley, prosecuting attorney, 897 votes; and Cyndi Henslely, collector of revenue, 933 votes.

Republican ballot

On the Republican ballot, Mississippi County voters casted the following votes for U.S. Senator: Eric Schmitt, 488 votes; Eric Greitens, 349 votes; Vicky Hartzler, 180 votes; Patrick A. Lewis, 13 votes; Billy Long, 10 votes; Bernie Mowinski, 1 votes; C.W. Gardner, 3 votes; Deshon Porter, 2 votes; Dave Sims, 1 votes; Mark McCloskey, 12 votes; Eric McElroy, 6 votes; Dennis Lee Chilton, 3 votes; Dave Schatz, 4 votes; Robert Olson, 2 votes; Darrell Leon McClanahan III, 7 votes; and Curtis D. Vaughn, 4 votes. Robert Allen, Hartford Tunnell, Kevin C. Schepers, Rickey Joiner and Russel Pealer Breyfogle Jr. didn’t receive any Mississippi County votes.

In the race for the Republican candidate for state auditor, voters favored Scott Fitzpatrick over David Gregory in a vote of 637 to 349.

In the race for the Eighth District U.S. representative, Mississippi County voters preferred incumbent Jason Smith over Jacob Turner in a vote of 935 to 135.

Current state representative for the 149th District, Don Rone, termed out, and Mississippi County voters chose Donnie Brown, 727 votes, over Eric Garris, 331 votes, on the Republican Party ticket.

Democratic ballot

Democratic candidates running for U.S. senator received the following Mississippi County votes: Lucas Kunce, 33 votes; Carla Coffee Wright, 27 votes; Trudy Busch Valentine, 25 votes; Lewis Rolen, 21 votes; Gena Ross, 14 votes; Josh Shipp, 8 votes; Spencer Toder, 3 votes; Jewel Kelly, 4 votes; Clarence “Clay” Taylor, 2 votes; Pat Kelly, 7 votes; and Ronald “Ron” William Harris, 8 votes.

Running unopposed on the Democratic ballot were Alan Green, state auditor, 143 votes; and Randi McCallian, Eighth District U.S. representative, 139 votes.
