EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. — Due to recent events, the East Prairie Police Department announced on Saturday to temporarily close the city parking lot at dark.

“The curfew at dark temporary until things calm down from this past week’s incidents,” East Prairie Police Chief “This is not to punish anyone or deprive anyone; we are thinking about the safety of our community,” East Prairie Police Chief Lorrie Christian said Saturday via the department’s social media. “I would ask that everyone bear with us and be understanding. The safety of our community is our first and foremost priority.”

On Tuesday, Christian told the Standard Democrat there haven’t been any after-effects so far far.

“We just want this set as a precautionary because of the number of kiddos that sit in the city parking lot,” Christian said. “Innocent people get caught in situations every day that they have nothing do with. We are simply trying to avoid that statistic and do everything we can to make our citizens safer.”

There is no set time for the curfew to be lifted; it’s until further notice, the chief said.
