SIKESTON — It was just a year ago that The Christian Academy in Sikeston announced they were closing their doors after 17 years of providing Christian education.
COVID had impacted enrollment, and the school’s low tuition was unable to keep pace with expenses. But the highly-organized group of parents and donors decided to raise funds to keep the doors open. And that’s exactly what they did.
As the 2022-2023 school year approaches, TCA has a 25% enrollment increase over last year, and because of the tireless efforts of parents and a generous community, is once again on firm financial footing, according to TCA Administrator Mike Jensen.
The school, located at 103 E. Kathleen St., was founded in 2004 by a group of local churches who saw a need for Christian education in Sikeston.
Last year, students representing 22 area churches attended the school which offers classes prekindergarten through high school graduation.
Classes for the new school year begin Aug. 23 and feature a daily bible instruction as well as a new Spanish language class for all grade levels.
