Sumona Wheeler

HAYWOOD CITY, Mo. — Sumona Lea Wheeler, affectionately known as Boot Nanny, departed this life on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022. She was born Dec. 3, 1979, in Chaffee, Missouri, to Darlene Wheeler of Haywood City.

Sumona graduated from Scott County Central High School in 1998. While there, she was active in basketball and softball. She would later graduate from Trend Setter’s Beauty School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Sumona was employed at Madhatter for seven years.

Sumona joined and got baptized at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in her early teens.

Anyone who knew Sumona knows she had a passion for creating T-shirts for her children for every occasion. When it came to her crafts, she was a perfectionist. Sumona loved to bake and cook, but her kids didn’t like her cooking (inside joke). She loved various sauces and food, but hated mustard.

Sumona is survived by her two daughters, Zandrau Wheeler and Zalea Wheeler both of Haywood City; one son, Zachariah Wiggins of Haywood City; and their father, DeAngelo Wiggins of Sikeston, Missouri; her mother, Darlene Wheeler and stepdad, Curtis Avance Sr., both of Haywood City; one sister, Shantae Wheeler of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Curtis Avance Jr. of Haywood City and Tyrell Avance of St. Louis; four nieces, two nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she loved dearly.

Sumona loved and cared for her kids. And we all know that she will fight for hers.

Friends may call Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour of noon at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Haywood City with Associate Pastor Robert Walls officiating.

The Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
