Wayne Mays

SIKESTON — Wayne Mays, son of the late Quinn Mays and Toni Geraldine Freeland Mays, was born on May 18, 1951, in Sikeston and departed this life on Sept. 4, 2022, at his residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 71 years.

Mr. Mays was a former farmer. He was a member of the Sikeston Masonic Lodge 310, the SEMO Shrine Club in Sikeston and a former Sikeston Jaycee.

On Aug. 18, 1995, in Aid, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Connie Harrison. Mrs. Mays survives of their home in Dexter.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Tobie Tubbs and husband Jon of New Concord, Kentucky; two sons, Scott Moore and wife Amanda of Dexter and Scott Mays and wife Deanna of Benton, Kentucky; two brothers, Larry Mays and wife Cheryl of Greenville, Texas, and Danny Mays and wife Carrie of Manila, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, Paige Adams and husband Austin, Sophie Moore, Hanna McDonald and husband Trevor, Brooklyn Brown, Adison Moore, Colten Moore, Conner Campbell, Chase Johnson, Jontaylr Tubbs, Peyton Newsome and husband Corey, Hunter Mays, Carson Mays, and Parker Mays; and 11 great-grandchildren, Carson Moore, Zoey Moore, Ziadyn McDonald, Zayla McDonald, Jayda Shafer, Bowie Campbell, Kayden Nelson, Emersyn Mays, Kenneth Newsome, Hendryx Newsome, and one on the way, Layna Wayne Conner.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Glin Moore; and by his sister, Joyce Sloan.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. A Masonic service will be conducted at 1 p.m. by the Sikeston Lodge, with funeral services following immediately after with the Rev. Jerry Martin and the Rev. Terryl Almond officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
