CHARLESTON, Mo. — A Patriot Day Lunch was held at Warren E. Hearnes Elementary School Monday for local rescue workers in honor of those who responded to the Sept.11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks.

The school invited local agencies to attend, and over two dozen rescue workers and staff members were greeted with a free bacon cheeseburger lunch and a visit with students.

The first Patriot Day Lunch was held in 2018, and this community involvement event has since become a special day of honor and remembrance at Hearnes Elementary.

Principal Amy Smotherman was very pleased with the turnout and support of agencies in attendance, as were B.J. Babb, parent liaison / communications and Catrina Woodworth OPAA! food director, whose staff provided free lunches to all participating rescue workers.

The school would like to give a huge thanks to all participating agencies, WEH faculty and staff, Charleston R-I Central Office, Charleston Board of Education members, Superintendent Jeremy Siebert and SRO Brenda Bickford.
