21 SHS seniors vying for Miss Sikeston crown

SIKESTON – Twenty-one Sikeston High School seniors will vie for the Miss Sikeston crown at 8 p.m. Saturday during the annual American Legion Cotton Carnival at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo grounds.

Ava Alcorn, daughter of Ben and Erin Alcorn, is active in varsity volleyball, Student Council, A+ Program, SOAR, Key Club, DECA, Link Crew and cadet teaching. She also serves as the Red Pepper vice cayenne and Future Business Leaders of America vice president. She plans to attend the University of Alabama and major in nursing.

The daughter of Sharaye and Lavel Gilmore, Kharis Andrews participates in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, National Honor Society, SOAR, Link Crew, Bleacher Bums and FBLA. After high school, she plans to finish her Bachelor of Science in nursing and minor in Spanish at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Destiny Bonner is the daughter of Rebecca Bonner. Her school activities include Red Peppers, Skills USA, A+ Program and Inspired Presenters. After graduation, she plans to attend college and pursue a degree in criminal justice.

Lindsay Byrd, daughter of Shawn and Christy Byrd, is a Sikeston varsity head cheerleader, Red Peppers, FCA, FBLA, DECA, Link Crew, Key Club, Student Council, National Honor Society secretary, yearbook and Inspired Presenters. She plans to attend Ole Miss or Mississippi State, majoring in nursing or agriculture.

The daughter of Avi’Elle Crawford, Sarah Crawford is the vice president (co-president) of the CLC and member of choir, Leadership Council, orchestra, Red Peppers and drama. Her plans include attending Fisk University and major in accounting.

Deonna Drury, who is the daughter of the late Dennette Mills and Donnie Drury, she participates in varsity tennis, Link Crew, FCA leader, FTA, Grow Your Own Teachers, Key Club, Inspired Presenters, FBLA and Skills USA. After high school, she plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University, majoring in early childhood education and minoring in psychology.

The daughter of Fred and Heather Drury, Maggie Drury is active in Red Peppers, A+ Program, varsity soccer and DECA. Following graduation this spring, she plans to attend Renaissance Beauty Academy in Cape Girardeau to pursue her love and passion of making people look and feel their very best.

Blair Durham, daughter of David and Becky Durham, is a cheerleader and project coordinator for National Honor Society. She’s a member of the competition squad, DECA, FCA, Red Peppers, Link Crew, FBLA, Key Club and Inspired Presenters. She plans to attend Mizzou and major in journalism with an emphasis in strategic communications.

Morgan Fitzgerald is active in cheer, track, FBLA (as an officer), Red Peppers, Bulldog Barker, DECA, speech and debate, Link Crew, FCA, Key Club and Inspired Presenters. The daughter of Cory and Melissa Fitzgerald, she plans to attend a college and major in accounting before moving on to law school.

Victoria Headd, daughter of Elizabeth and Daniel Headd, is active in Skills USA, ASTRA, Red Peppers, Writers Club, orchestra, National Honor Society, Inspired Presenters and Link Crew. She plans to attend Missouri State University.

The daughter of Chris and Jennifer Hodgkiss, Lilly Hodgkiss serves as the ASTRA president, National Honor Society vice president, FBLA treasurer, Bulldog Barker co-editor and Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader. After graduation, she plans to attend a four-year university and major in accounting and finance.

Harley Hunter, daughter of Nicole and Thomas Hunter, is a member of Red Peppers, an FFA officer, involved in FBLA, DECA, FCA, Key Club, Link Crew, A+ Program and National Honor Society. She plans to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and then attend chiropractic school.

Allison Jones, daughter of Joey Jones, is a drum major for the Sikeston marching band, editor of the yearbook and president of Band Council. She’s a member of FTA, GYOT, Link Crew and Inspired Presenters. After high school, she plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University and pursue a career in optometry.

Th daughter of Heather Lawrence and the late Aaron Lawrence, Ahnna Lawrence serves as FFA president, Student Council treasurer and participates in Red Peppers, varsity softball, College Now and A+ Program. Following high school, she plans to continue her college education to receive a bachelor’s degree in political science and then attend law school.

Zoie McDonald is the daughter of Tisa McDonald and the late Brad McDonald and the granddaughter of Pat and Duke McDonald. Her school activities include varsity tennis team, Red Peppers, Key Club, FFA chaplain, SOAR, Inspired, FCA, Link Crew and Skills USA. She has been accepted to Ole Miss and plans to major in biology on a pre-dental track.

The daughter of David McGowen and Sandra McGowen, Samantha McGowan-Ramirez is the FFA vice president and member of the Bleacher Bums, Inspired Presenters, Link Crew and orchestra. She plans to attend Three Rivers College as well as cosmetology and esthetician school.

Emma Qualls, daughter of Jamie and Travis Qualls, serves as Red Pepper demerit chairman, student body treasurer, beautification committee chair and ASTRA Club vice president. She is a member of National Honor Society, Inspired Presenters, Link Crew and SHS orchestra. After high school, she plans to attend Mississippi State and major in pre-medicine or biology.

Emily Riley is a Sikeston varsity cheerleader, Sikeston FFA reporter and Red Pepper. The daughter of Lela and Trey Riley, she plans to attend Murray State University and major in ag business while college rodeoing.

Allison Rodgers, daughter of Angela Rodgers, is active in Red Peppers, A+ Program, Bulldog Barker, Grow Your Own Teachers, FTA, Inspired Presenters. She also manages softball and wrestling. After graduation, she plans to attend a university and continue in sports management.

The daughter of JJ and Ashli Steward, Reese Steward is the cayenne of Red Peppers, Link Crew leader, National Honor Society president, college ambassador and FBLA secretary. She is also a member of Inspired Presenters, DECA, FCA, Student Council, volleyball, track, SOAR and Key Club. Her plans include attending college to earn a degree in sports medicine and to study one semester abroad.

Brooke Taylor, daughter of Justin Taylor and Tara Rhodes, serves as student body vice president and Art Club president. She is a member of National Honor Society, Speech and Debate, Red Peppers, A+ Program, FCA, Link Crew, DECA, Key Club, Inspired Outreach, FBLA and yearbook. After high school, she plans to attend University of Missouri’s honor college to major in political science with an emphasis on pre-law, enter the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy and enroll in law school to obtain her doctorate.
