Good grief

I was just reading your article on the YMCA in your newspaper of Sept. 17/18. I’ve never seen so much puffery in my life. Is the YMCA for exercise or is it a church or is it a left-wing political organization? Does the YMCA get money from the government? I’d like to know more about it. Again it sounds more like a church or a left-wing political organization. Thank you.

The mission statement of the YMCA has always been “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.”

No more mail-in ballots

According to President Biden, the pandemic is over so there should be no more reason to have mail-in ballots or early voting because everyone now can safely go to the polls.

Fix streets downtown

As a lifelong resident of Sikeston I will always support ideas that I think will improve our town. Closing New Madrid Street between Front Street and West Malone is not a good idea in my opinion. If the City Council really wants to improve Downtown Sikeston, they will fix our Downtown streets first. They are terrible. The downtown streets of Canalou, Charleston, Matthews and New Madrid are in better shape than our streets. If you don’t believe me, drive to one of these towns and see for yourself. Proud but concerned citizen of Sikeston.

Give the Y credit

I’m calling in reference to the article about the pickleball courts being installed at the Complex. I’m very happy for that. I was very in favor for that, but in all fairness, pickleball has been played at the Y for several years and was introduced in Sikeston by several key people at the YMCA. People that have been other places have played and introduced it. I played it one time and I loved the game and I just think that credit should be extended to the Y because it is a very important organization in our town for not only youth but for senior citizens.

The article was about a ribbon cutting for the new outdoor pickleball courts at the Complex, not pickleball being played at the YMCA. We have ran numerous articles on the YMCA and its importance to the community.
