SIKESTON — For many years, the Standard Democrat has welcomed area children to write letters to Santa, and then the newspaper sends them to Santa before publishing in a special section at Christmastime.

This year the letters will be published in the Wednesday, Dec. 21 edition. The Standard Democrat can step in to deliver local children’s letters to Santa Claus just in time for Christmas.

Typically, children are asked to email or mail their letters to the Standard Democrat office, but for the third year, there is a contact-free method. Children or their parents can also leave their letters in a dropbox located in the front of the Standard Democrat office located at 205 S. New Madrid St. in Sikeston.

For the second year, there is a second method of contact-free dropoff: the Standard Democrat’s spot No. 9 at the Light Up Sikeston drive-through Christmas displays, which are at the Sikeston First Assembly of God property, 1221 N. Ingram, across from the Sikeston Rodeo Grounds.

In addition to individuals sending their letters, schools and/or teachers are also invited to send students’ letters to Santa. For example, for years, Scott County Central Elementary has taken the opportunity to teach students about letter-writing and then send each class’s letters for publication in the Standard Democrat.

Letters may be emailed to news@standard-democrat.com; placed in the dropbox at the Standard Democrat office or the Light Up Sikeston display, Spot No. 9; or mailed to Santa in care of the Standard Democrat, 205 S. New Madrid St., Sikeston, MO 63801.

In order for the letters to get published, the Standard Democrat must receive them no later than 5 p.m. Dec. 9 so they can all be printed by Christmas. Email is encouraged, but if letters are handwritten, please be sure the writing is legible so they can be transcribed correctly.
