3 killed, 3 injured in single-vehicle crash in Scott County

Three people died and three others were injured in a single-vehicle crash Saturday in Scott County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 7:03 p.m. on northbound Interstate 55 at the 85.6 mile marker as the northbound vehicle driven by Audrey M. Smith, 20, of Bridgeton, Missouri, swerved to miss an animal in the road, ran off the road and struck a tree.

Smith and two of her passengers, Mallory L. Carter, 19, of Brighton, Illinois, and Andrew C. Marzuco, 20, of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, were pronounced dead at the scene at 7:57 p.m. by Scott County Corner Scott Branam and taken to the Scott County coroner's office in Sikeston, Missouri.

Another of Smith’s passengers, Grace A. Makowski, 22, of St. Louis, Missouri, received moderate injuries while two other passengers, Maria L. Marzuco, 20, of Ste. Genevieve and Katherine B. Nations, of Chesterfield, Missouri, were transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
