Dan DeField
CHARLESTON, Mo. — Daniel William DeField, age 69, of Charleston died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, at Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Born Nov. 3, 1953, at Cape Girardeau, to the late Edward Clyde DeField and Wilda Hess DeField, he had lived in Charleston most of his life and was raised in the United Methodist Church. A 1972 graduate of Charleston High School, he went on to study at the University of Missouri at Columbia where he graduated with a degree in Agronomy. He then went on to further study at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. Dan taught for a number of years in the Charleston R-1 School District until his retirement. He then came out of retirement and took a position with the Meridian School District at Mounds, Illinois, and again taught until he retired.
Involved in sports since childhood, he was involved in many athletic activities his entire life rather it be playing, coaching or officiating at various games and sporting events.
Dan was a happy and welcoming person, always quick to open his home to friends and family, and had such an immense love for his many dogs he owned throughout the years.
Survivors include: his sister, Judy DeField (Dennis) Martin; his brothers, Bruce (Janet) DeField and Michael (Jane) DeField; one nephew, Andrew (Ann) DeField; five nieces, Allison (Ian) Rich, Becky (Micheal) Blaylock, Katie (Edward) Peck, Emily (Matthew) Schwertfeger, Heather (Matthew) GeRue; eight great-nephews and three great-nieces.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until time for the memorial services at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Clay Shelby, Charles Moxley, Billy French, Sam Story, Tim Rolwing and Keith Quertermous.
