NEW MADRID, Mo. — Graveside services for George Milton Bock, 75, who died Sept. 4, 2022, at his home in Leawood, Kan., are scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 27, 2022, at the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid. The Rev. Mark Binder will officiate.
Born Feb. 25, 1947, to Harry H. and Kathleen Newsum Bock, he grew up in New Madrid, Mo., where he attended Immaculate Conception School and New Madrid High School. He completed his undergraduate degree at Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tenn., then attended law school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he graduated with honors in 1972.
He began his law career serving as a clerk for Federal District Judge Elmo B. Hunter in Kansas City, Mo. For 26 years he was a partner with the local firm of Slagle and Barnard, where he specialized in multi-district and anti-trust litigation. From 2002 to 2017, he served as a federal law administrative judge.
In 1969 he joined the Missouri National Guard serving with 1140th Engineers in Portageville, Mo., then with 205th Medical Battalion in Kansas City. He was discharged in 1975 as a commissioned officer in the Medical Service Corps.
Surviving are: his wife of 20 years, Dara Nielsen Bock of the home; eight children, Charles (Amy) Bock of St. Louis; Emily Bock Weck (Charles) of Athlone, Ireland; Michael (Karen) Bock of Kansas City, Mo.; Katie Bock Nelson of Prairie Village Kan.; John Bock of Kansas City; Andrew Bock; Kristopher (Brooke) Nielsen of Lenexa, Kan.; and Peter Nielsen of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Fran Bock of New Madrid and Elizabeth Bock of Ava, Mo; one brother, Riley (Jill) Bock of New Madrid; and 16 grandchildren, Madeline Bock, Harrison Bock, Tedda Bock, Will Bock, Frances Bock, Peyton Carlson, Charlie Bock, Caroline Bock, Joseph Bock, Catherine Bock, Riley Bock, Mark Nelson, Henry Nelson, Max Nielsen, Luke Johnston and Caitlin Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lynn N. Bock, who died Sept. 6, 2021; and one nephew, Amos Camden Riley Bock, who died Oct. 23, 2006.
