A winter weather advisory remains in effect from 3 pm. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday for Southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and western Kentucky.

Mixed precipitation is expected with total sleet and snow accumulations of up to a half inch and ice accumulations of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch, according to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky. Difficult travel conditions are possible as roadways turn icy, the Weather Service said.

Mixed precipitation will spread from west to east Monday afternoon into Monday night. The precipitation will begin as a mix of sleet and snow before transitioning to mainly freezing rain overnight into early Tuesday morning.

Slow down and use caution while traveling; prepare for possible power outages, the Weather Service said.

Another potential round of freezing rain is possible over the southern half of southeast Missouri, far southern Illinois, and much of west Kentucky Wednesday night into early Thursday, the Weather Service said. A light glaze of ice could lead to more travel difficulties. Temperatures are forecast to warm well above freezing Thursday, so any impacts will be short-lived.
