VANDUSER, Mo. — Nelwyn "Nell" Dodd Owens of Vanduser transitioned into her new life on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, at Bertrand Nursing and Rehab Center with her family by her side.
Born April 11, 1932, in Marion County, Alabama, to the late Lee and Rosa Dodd, she attended Sikeston High School.
Nell was employed at Graber's Department Store, Sikeston, Missouri, Black's Grocery Store in Vanduser and for the Scott County Central Schools for 33 years where she was awarded for her outstanding and dedicated service.
Nell was a devout member of the Vanduser Church of Christ where she taught children's bible class for many years.
In June 1949, Nell married Roy Leo Owens. She was preceded in death by one brother, Max A. Dodd and many other family and friends.
She is survived by two sisters, Betty (James) Howell of Sikeston and Bobbie Jean (Otis) Hardin of Cave Springs, Arkansas.
She is survived by Roy Owens; one son, Gary (Kathy) Owens of Vanduser; and one daughter, Sherrie (Mark) Wade of Jackson, Missouri. She leaves to cherish three grandchildren, Kelly (Aaron) Wade, Whitney (Lee) LaValle and Mark Adam (Heather) Wade. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Katherine (Diego) Fraire, Britton Wade, Wade, Lynlee and Westin LaValle and Khale, Kolby and Mattie Wade. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a very special friend and caregiver, Judy Wallace.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. Her brother-in-law, Otis Hardin, will officiate, assisted by Dan Richardson, minister of the Vanduser Church of Christ.
Burial will take place at Forest Hills Memorial Garden-Pines in Morley, Missouri.
Pallbearers will be Britton Wade, Mark Adam Wade, Lee LaValle, Wade LaValle, Terry Hardin and Brian Hardin.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Debbie Dodd Plunk and Aaron Wade.
Although we will miss her here, we are confident she has been greeted by family members and dear friends whom she has missed and longed to see.
