BRANDON, Miss. — Benjamin Ray Burns Jr., 85, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Flowood, Mississippi, with visitation starting at 10 am. Interment will follow in the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, Mississippi.
Mr. Burns was born on Aug. 29, 1937, in Sikeston, Missouri, to Benjamin Ray Burns Sr. and Sarah Evelyn Johnson Burns. He received his bachelor’s degree in Missouri and went on to receive is master’s degree from Mississippi College. He retired as a Captain in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also the Administrator for the Kidney Care Inc. where John D. Bower, M.D., the Founder and Medical Director stated: “Ben was a valuable member for a fabulous team.”
Mr. Burns was also the Commander of the Army Intelligence for the State of Mississippi and a Liaison of the FBI for the State of Mississippi.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Trigg Burns; son, Benjamin Ray Burns III and wife Penelope; Godchildren, David Edward Stewart and wife Sarah Marie Stewart and Andrea Michelle Stewart; grandchildren, Tyler Adam Burns and Dean James Burns; Camden Michael Stewart and Adrienne Marie Stewart affectionately known as grandchildren; and dearest and longtime family friend, Nancy Joe Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Judy Burns McConnell and Charlotte Lee Burns Smith.
