EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. — Peggy Sue Owens, age 82, of East Prairie died Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri.
Born Aug. 14, 1940, at East Prairie, to the late Matthew Washington Cummins and Amanda Evelyn Cave Cummins, she was a 1961 graduate of East Prairie High School. Peggy had lived her entire life in East Prairie where she had attended the First General Baptist Church and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was employed for many years with Walmart until her retirement.
On Sept. 7, 1974, she married Billy Max Owens, who preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2003.
Surviving are her sister, Thelma Cummins Summers; two special nieces, Felecia (Terry) Sanders and Julie Summers (Keith McKinney) all of East Prairie; one great-niece, Presley (Matt) Derrington of Diehlstadt; two great-nephews, Cotton Day of East Prairie and Emory McKinney of Sikeston; one sister-in-law, Danielle Cummins of Sylmar, California; a very special lifelong friend, Opal Hamilton of East Prairie; one special daughter, Jerry Lee Summers Rains of Sikeston; also, a number of other very dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Warren Edward Cummins, Finley George Cummins, Charles Edward Cummins, Frankie Joe Cummins; and her sisters, Helen Marie Ditto.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Rev. Martin Lucas will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Felicia Sanders, Julie Summers, Terry Sanders, Keith McKinney, Cotton Day, Matt Derrington and Dwight White.
