BENTON, Mo. — Rose Ann Scherer, 84, of Benton, went to meet her loving husband, Charlie, on Feb. 28, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Oct. 22, 1938, in Oran, Missouri, the daughter of the late Roman and Marie Ressel.
On June 8, 1958, at Guardian Angel Church in Oran, she married the love of her life, Charlie Scherer.
Rose Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her family and friends. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always filling her home with warmth and kindness, while adding her special ingredient of love in everything she cooked. Her food was always delicious, but everyone’s favorites were her pumpkin pie, chicken n’ dumplings and her canned sweet pickles. When she wasn’t feeding the family at her famous Saturday lunches, Rose Ann enjoyed giving old furniture a new life.
No matter the occasion, her home was bursting at the seams with an ever-growing family — a true testament to a mother’s love for her kids grandkids and great-grandkids and their adoration of her. Charlie and Rose Ann truly were the foundation of the Scherer Family.
She is survived by her 11 children: Mike (Karen) Scherer, Gary (Judy) Scherer, Charla (Paul) Glueck, Don (Sandy McArthur) Scherer, Richard (Lisa) Scherer, Lisa (Doug Gosche) Scherer, Linda (Kevin) Kieffer, Kenny (Meredith) Scherer, Teresa (Shane ) Ray, Barbra Below and Jason (Paula Menees) Scherer.
Grandma Scherer was loved by 27 grandchildren: Harley Scherer; Andrew, Ethan and Elliot Glueck; Dylan, Gage, Reece and Jude Scherer; Hunter, Kelsie, Haley and Kaylen Glastetter; Klayton, Heather and Kaleb Gosche; Nathan, Lindsey and Lucia Kieffer; Carter, Jolie, Tanner and Chloe Scherer; Gaven and Carlee Ray; Nick, Jake and Savannah Below.
She was also loved by 12 great-grandchildren; Alaina Trankler; Carson Glueck; Charlie, Leo and Isabella Glastetter; Kaisley, Bridge and Hagen Moit; Emersyn and Isla Scherer; Caroline Scherer, Berkley Below; and Bayne Below due April 2023.
Rose Ann is also survived by one sister, Luella Kern.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters, Rita Ressel, Marilyn Barge, Romana Hulshof; and a brother, Herman Joe Ressel.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, where a funeral Mass will be conducted on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 10 a.m. with Father Bala Swamy Govindu officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Denis Catholic Cemetery.
