SIKESTON — The National Honor Society, or NHS, announced that Lilly Hodgkiss, a high school senior at Sikeston High School and member of NHS, has been selected as an NHS Scholarship semifinalist.

“We are so excited for Lilly to receive this scholarship” said Sikeston High School Counselor Kim Thornbrough, NHS sponsor. “As an NHS sponsor for the last 16 years, this is the first time we have had a student receive this award. Lilly is an excellent student who has worked hard and is finally seeing the benefits of her hard work.”

At Sikeston High School, Lilly Hodgkiss has served as the vice president of NHS, co-editor of The Bulldog Barker, a Student Council representative, a member of ASTRA, FBLA treasurer, Key Club and a Link Crew Leader. This fall, she hopes to attend Mississippi State University to study accounting.

Since 1946, more than $21 million in scholarships have been awarded to outstanding NHS senior members to support college access and student success. The scholarship program is supported by the parent organization of NHS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). In the 100-plus years since NHS was founded in 1921, members have been making a difference in their schools and communities, and the NHS Scholarship is NASSP’s way of recognizing the most exceptional of these student leaders. Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated work to support the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership and character.
