SIKESTON — George Thomas Parker, age 77, of Sikeston died Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Born July 22, 1945, at Glasgow, Kentucky, to the late Robert Henry Parker and Nora Elizabeth Boles Parker, he grew up in central Kentucky. In 1974, he and his family moved to Sikeston, when he opened the Long John Silver’s Restaurant and later the combined restaurant of Long John Silvers and A&W, operating them until his retirement in 2016. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sikeston and the Sikeston Kiwanis Club.

On May 29, 1965, he married Genene Grinstead, who survives of the home in Sikeston.

Also surviving are his daughter, Kelley (Bryan) Lewis of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; his son, Kristopher T. Parker of Sikeston; grandchildren, Zachary T. Miller and MacKenzie Lynn Parker; his stepgrandchildren, Tate Lewis and Harper Lewis; his brother, Norman Parker of Caneyville, Kentucky; his sisters, Ann Smith of Horse Cave, Kentucky, and Peggy Hamilton of Glasgow; also, his nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Martha Parker and Mary Jo Fisher.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Visitation will then be held from noon until the funeral hour at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Hatcher and Sandler Funeral Home in Glasgow.

Interment will follow in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery at Glasgow.
