CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Olevia “Libby” Tucker Scherer, daughter of the late Clarence and Erice Mae (Lynn) Tucker, was born on Dec. 10, 1936 in Illmo, Missouri, and passed away May 20, 2023, at her home surrounded by family in Cape Girardeau at the age of 86 years.

Olevia “Libby” provided in-home child care for 41 years to around 120 children during this time. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, Missouri.

On Nov. 8, 1958, she married Ray Scherer in Dutchtown, Missouri. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2005.

Survivors include: one son, Anthony (Dawn) Scherer of Benton; two daughters, Diane (Ron) Morris of Cape Girardeau, Cheryl Scherer who was taken from a Scott City gas station on April 17, 1979; one granddaughter, Cori Butler of Sikeston, Missouri; two brothers, Sonny (Betty) Tucker of Festus, William (and the late Jeanie) Tucker of Pevely, Missouri; and one brother-in-law, Bob (Ann) Scherer of Venice, Florida.

Apart from her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Opal Stevens; and one brother. Gary Tucker.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton.

A funeral Mass will then be conducted at 10 a.m. in the St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton with Rev. Daniel Belken officiating.

Interment will follow in the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery in Benton.
