SIKESTON — On Friday, June 2 Music in the Park will return to Downtown Sikeston in Legion Park.  This year’s Music in the Park Summer Concert Series will feature seven performances beginning June 2 and ending July 28, delivering a range of music to residents.

A concert will be carried out at Legion Park on every Friday night in June and July (excluding June 16 and June 30).

The concerts begin at 6 p.m. and end about 8 p.m. Those who want to attend the free concerts can bring their own chairs and blankets and relax while listening to the music.

“The Music in the Park Summer Concert Series serves as the perfect way to end a busy work week,” said Jason Davis, executive director of Historic Downtown Sikeston. “It’s free for everyone, so it’s a great opportunity to bring the entire family for a fun night in downtown Sikeston.”

Double Take will be back on stage this week. Double Take, a popular local band from Portageville fronted by 15-year-old twin boys, was one of the year’s most attended shows.

Southern Draw will play on June 9, followed by Blind Velvet on June 23. There will be no performance on June 16 due to the Hot Air Balloon Festival, and no performance on June 30 due to the Fourth of July holiday.

The Dirt Road Express will play on July 7, Keyed Up on July 14, and The Millstones on July 21. On July 28, Countempo will end its Music in the Park Summer Concert Series.

Davis said the summer series events are a fun way to spend a Friday night.

“Each Friday, you can get off work, grab some food, come on out to the park, and relax while enjoying top notch local talent,” Davis said.

The event is free due to sponsors Carpet Direct, Montgomery Bank, Southern Bank, Stogies of Sikeston, Jeremiah’s Fine Dining & Spirits, Sikeston MediCenter Pharmacy, Missouri Delta Medical Center, and First Community State Bank.

Anchor Church of Sikeston will also be providing free popcorn.
